Poster & Bill Studio

Set-dressing posters at true size — teen walls, living-room prints, gallery bills, one-sheets, gig flyers, travel plates, safety notices and regime print. Eleven categories, twenty-five layouts, fifty styles, printed by a method the year could actually manage. Every title, act, gallery and body is invented.

Format

Each language composes its own copy — Greek with gender and case, the others with agreed phrases — and the money, the certificate, the phone number and the date follow the country and the year.

Sheet size — true trade formats, in millimetres

Content

Every name here is generated from invented word banks. Nothing is a real title, act, gallery, carrier or authority. Keep it that way — the clearance is the whole point.

Design

These are the pieces the studio composes with: change the year or the style and they are restyled along with everything else. To move the finished sheet by hand instead — and have it stay where you put it when the year changes underneath — use By hand on the rail.

Art

Drop an image, or click to choose. It becomes the key art.
Drop an image, or click to choose. It is placed on the sheet as a picture you move and size in the editor — as many as you like.

Illustrations — painted scenes, drawn in vector from the poster’s own colours

Twenty-two scenes: country, coast, mountains, an island village, vineyard, harvest, orchard, farm, garden, fruit, flowers, birds, fish, the city, people, a portrait, night, palms, woodcut and deco. Roll the dice for a different version of the same scene. Nothing here is traced and nothing needs clearing.

Minimal — one flat object, a lot of room

The alternative poster: a flat ground, one object and a trick — a scene inside a keyhole, a tiny figure under a huge sun, a shadow that is something else, the one odd object in a grid. Every object is a common thing drawn from nothing; the title goes small at the foot.

Code art — drawn by algorithm, in vector, at print size

Thirty-four pattern engines. Everything comes out as real paths, so it prints at any size and stays editable. Nothing here is a photograph and nothing needs clearing.

Print

Paper — the sheet, not just its colour

Age it — age more than looks right in hand

Nothing at all. Every level below is scaled by this one.

Your own wear — a scanned or drawn texture

SVG or PNG with transparency. EPS is not readable in a browser — convert it to SVG first.

Sheet

PNG is lossless and large — an A0 at 300 dpi runs to tens of megabytes. JPEG is the one to send. Neither is for the press; the SVG and the vector PDF are.

Border — a white margin, or a passepartout

Variants

The same sheet, several ways, in one pass. Everything you are not varying is held still — including the seed, so the “same” poster really is the same poster.

Checks

Dating tells — what puts a poster in the wrong decade

Beyond the generator

A dressed corridor needs thirty bills that agree with each other — same printer, same house, same year, layered under each other on the same wall. If this can't reach what the scene needs, it can be designed for you and delivered print-ready, anywhere.
